What does it all mean?

It is important to differentiate the differences and correct useages for the terms: Mission; Vision; Values; Purpose; Strategic Thinking; and Strategies.

These can often be confusing to the most experienced business person - let alone entire organisations.

Harding & Yorke can help you understand what each means and how they add value (OR NOT).  We can ensure purposeful contributions from your people and support your communication to the appropriate audiences.

Blue Sky Thinking

What is it?

Is it just an excuse for senior executives to spend half a day a week on the golf course with a little agenda setting at the 19th hole?!

Or is it an essential part of developing a strong, effective business plan?

Your opinion of blue sky thinking will, no doubt, be founded upon your experience of it so far.

It’s like most things.  If it is done badly it is a waste of precious time.  If it is done well it will bring sustainable, positive changes to your organisation.

Whatever your thoughts, there is no denying that the great leaders, teachers, entrepreneurs and scientists of our time have all been blue sky thinkers.  After all, it was a blue sky thinker who discovered that our sky isn’t really blue!

Lord Rayleigh, an English physicist, discovered that the sky appears blue to us on a clear day, because the atoms of nitrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere separate the suns white light into its many colours, and scatter them throughout the atmosphere.  The wavelength of blue light scatters better than the rest, predominates over the other colours in the light spectrum, and makes the sky appear blue to us.

The same can be said of many of the challenges that we face in business.  Things are not always as they appear; sometimes we need to peel back the layers of accepted thinking to discover answers that will unlock the success we strive for.  Just because we’ve always done something a certain way, doesn’t make it right.

What can we do?

Our consultants believe that time spent envisioning, challenging and creating new ideas is invaluable for all organisations who wish to differentiate themselves from their competitors and become more profitable.

We can work with you to make those valuable changes a reality.  We offer facilitation that both stimulates and challenges you and your team.  We will help you to arrange everything from an inspiring environment, thought provoking sessions, stimulating activities and, most importantly, we’ll make sure you don’t go away without a SMART action plan.   It’ll be a million miles away from 19th hole philosophy!

Alternatively we can, if you prefer, do the 'thinking' for you.  We employ creative, free thinkers who can convert even the wackiest idea into profitable streams of business.  The experience we have of working with some of the world's most admired and respected companies adds to the skills we bring to your table.
