An introduction to Campfire-Ology and Storytelling

Campfire-Ology -

Harding & Yorke have developed a new business methodology to help organisations share the process of Culture Change within their own ranks.  A simple metopher of locating, building and maintaining a campfire is the setting.  The experience is designed to make sure that all your people are engaged and morivated to help the process of change and a catalyst is formed to get you under way.  Various articles on the methodology will be published thorughout 2008 and these will appear here first.

Having first heard this story I was convinced it was true however through further investigation I have since discovered that it is in fact a fable - no matter the story itself is of such quality that it truly serves its purpose.

Article 1 - The Appropriateness of Fire
Young and mature groups alike use fire ritualistically, as a focal point for exchange of ideas and song. Whether Scout/Guide Troop or Executives on an "Outward Bound" course, a gathering around a fire will cement bonds at a deeper emotional level than the more formalised and prosaic rituals of training and discussion (the classroom, the clubhouse). Competences will still be transferred, narratives exchanged; but the attractions of the flame and the music speak to something more fundamental in our human makeup. Read More...
